Despite having begun my jaunt into roll play gaming with Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, my passion lies in the Saga edition rules set. It just feels like the apex of d20 rules to me, but then it, like anything else has its ups and downs. One of its greatest strengths, from what I can see, is that it feels very simple and characters are a lot more customizable then the straight lists of 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons.
Its drawback is that all the things you can choose from is spread over fourteen books that themselves have no semblance of uniformity. In fact, if you are looking for information in just the Core book, say for species choices? You have to look in two different places to find all of them in that book and the second set aren't even complete in their information.
To cap it all some entries are doubled, with differing information, or Force powers that have the same name despite being totally different. *ponders* You know it does seem like I do have a lot to complain about, but as I said, ups and downs.
On the plus sides the system is fairly simple and versatile enough that you don't have to incorporate all of the rules to play. (This is true of many systems, to be fair.) If you know what you want you can find information on enough bad guys and NPC's to keep your players entertained, the means to create new worlds, new races or creatures and new missions, etc.
I just love the way it all fits together and the feel of the universe into which I am immersed. An awesome system.
